Traffic @ Penn Rd & Wynnewood Rd – Feeback please!

Dear Wynnewood Neighbor:

In recent days many of you may have noticed the change in the curb and roadway on Penn Rd. where it intersects with Wynnewood Rd. The recent installation of a sidewalk “bump out” into Penn road at the intersection has narrowed the roadway to a single lane, significantly restricting the flow traffic at peak periods.

Narrowing the roadway to a single lane means that cars trying to turn left onto Wynnewood Rd. at busy times can block traffic behind them for one or more cycles of the traffic light at the intersection creating lengthy backups.

We have been told that this “improvement” was recommended by the township planning staff and approved by the Board of Commissioners with the intended purpose of making the intersection more pedestrian friendly. Whether the new curb actually achieves that goal remains to be seen, but it does seem to have also achieved the unintended consequence of hindering traffic on a major connector road many of use on a daily basis.

In an effort to better understand the effect it is having on Wynnewood residents, the Wynnewood Civic Association is asking those of you who have encountered problems to share your experiences with us.

If you have encountered significant delays trying to exit Penn Rd. onto Wynnewood please tell us about your experience, with details about date, time of day, length of delay and any other relevant information, by emailing the information to us at: WynnewoodTraffic@gmail.com.

We will use the information you send us to gauge the level of concern about this problem and address the issue with the appropriate township officials.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this.

Tony Lame, President
Wynnewood Civic Association
